Welcome to Border Canvas

Border Canvas has its roots in Johannesburg, where the family originally lived before relocating to East London. The move was inspired by the deep connection to the area, as Brandon’s grandfather had lived there, and his father always wanted to return. Upon settling in East London, the family purchased a shop called “Outdoor Living and Canvas Centre”, previously owned by Trevor Sanan. It was a camping store that also offered repairs, located in Central Square.

Initially, the business focused on general repairs, but the family soon recognized a gap in the market for high-quality local manufacturing. As large chain stores like Game began sourcing products from overseas, they decided to pivot away from retail and focus entirely on manufacturing. The transition led to the rebranding of the business as Border Canvas, with a vision to provide locally made, durable outdoor solutions.

Starting as a small, family-run operation with just two machinists and a single fitter, Border Canvas gradually expanded. Over the years, it grew from a modest two-person venture into a thriving business with a team of 19 employees. 

The dedication and hard work of Brandon’s parents have been instrumental in shaping the company’s success, turning it into a well-established name in the industry. 

Thanks to their commitment and vision, Border Canvas has not only survived but flourished, more than tripling in size while remaining true to its roots. Today, the business continues to grow, offering high-quality outdoor covers, blinds, and protective solutions, standing as a testament to their legacy and passion.
